The First Recreational Marijuana Store Opens in Brookline

August 11, 2023Health, News, Reviews

New England Treatment Access, known as NETA, officially opened the first recreational marijuana store near Boston city limits Saturday in Brookline. Since 2016, their Brookline location had served as a medical dispensary; adult-use sales started in November at its Northampton facility.

Residents have filed petitions with the town meeting seeking to restrict store hours and require appointment-only sales at NETA Brookline, but Rositano believes such restrictions are unnecessary for its success.

The Brookline store at 160 Washington Street in Brookline Village received its start-up notice from the Cannabis Control Commission earlier this month and will open for business Saturday – one day after Northampton.

At its opening period, NETA expects large crowds, not surprising given the dispensary’s proximity to Boston. Amanda Rositano, director of operational compliance for NETA, noted they will have staff both inside and outside to assist with managing customer flow – adult customers must present government issued ID before entry while MedCard holders will get priority treatment and can avoid the adult-use line altogether.

Rositano said NETA is currently compiling a transportation guide for guests driving themselves as well as encouraging public transit usage. The Brookline Village T stop on the D branch of the Green Line is conveniently located across from it; metered parking can also be found nearby; while MBTA’s X1 express bus service connects it directly to both TD Garden and South Station stations.

Dose Edibles by Neta Brookline

New England Treatment Access (NETA), located in Brookline, opened March 23 in an old bank building and marked its inaugural foray into recreational marijuana sales with an array of products including vaporizers, lotions and edibles for recreational users.

NETA provides consumers with various chocolate offerings, such as D-Line bars and nuggets containing 5-mg doses of chocolate caramels that are easy to swallow. These edibles can take an hour or more for their effects to take hold; D-Line bars may be suitable for newcomers.

Not all edible dosages will produce equal effects; individuals’ responses vary based on tolerance, body mass and metabolic health. To prevent overdoing it, start at the lowest recommended dose (5MG) and gradually increase it until you find what suits you best – this level of THC will produce mild effects such as stress relief, anxiety relief and creative inspiration; higher dosages could lead to impairment and unwanted euphoria or stress; for more information about NETA’s recommended edible dosages visit their website here.

Specialty Products by Neta Brookline

Specialty goods refer to consumer goods with distinctive properties and an outstanding brand image in the marketplace, typically featuring higher profit margins and prices that appeal to a niche market segment. Examples of specialty goods may include luxury cars, branded watches, expensive jewelry and famous paintings.

These products require intensive marketing and promotion efforts, typically via specialist stores at specific locations or through magazines targeting a certain clientele. Furthermore, they tend to be more costly than their counterparts in convenience or shopping stores.

NETA Brookline provides an assortment of marijuana products, such as flowers, pre-rolled joints, concentrates like oils and wax, tinctures, edibles and topical lotions. Customers can access NETA via the MBTA Green Line’s D Branch as well as bus routes 39-60-63-666 – two Bluebike stations are nearby as parking spots at Homewood Suites; valet spaces may also be available.

NETA’s Community

New England Treatment Access’ Brookline Village dispensary at 160 Washington Street received it commence-operations notice from the state Cannabis Control Commission earlier this month. As one of its two Massachusetts locations, this dispensary plays a critical role for company operations alongside Northampton’s facility.

Residents in Brookline have eagerly anticipated NETA’s recreational store opening within the Beaux-Arts building that houses Boston Public Library’s Brookline branch; but many residents are concerned about possible adverse consequences arising from its closeness to a high school, such as illegal transactions and overcrowding.

NETA has pledged its help in working with local officials to address local concerns. For example, security cameras at NETA assisted police with their search for Jose Ramiro after two robberies occurred in Brookline. Furthermore, the dispensary has contributed funds toward an impact fund which supports community wellness initiatives like trash-cleaning teams.
